A New Fan for Lady Windermere

In this post, we're going to review the second play in my Oscar Wilde series called "Lady Windermere's Fan". I really enjoyed this comedy and still found it funny even though it was written a long time ago in 1892. This play is full of dramatic satire, so if you enjoy comedy plays, I think this would be perfect for you!

The play begins with what seems like a nice, normal family until Lady Windermere, the wife and mother, finds out her husband has a secret. He has been giving another woman, named Mrs. Erlynne, enough money to buy a house without discussing it with her! Lady Windermere goes on to have an enormous, hilarious pity-party for herself because she thinks her marriage is falling apart. Instead of thinking her husband is someone who loves her very much, she begins to think he's just as bad as all the other men she's heard about. At this point, most of the audience would suspect Lady Windermere of being ridiculous and overly dramatic. Then suddenly the plot turns when Mrs. Erlynne comes to see Lady Windermere to tell her that the money Lord Windermere has been giving her secretly has always been offered out of love...
I would give "Lady Windermere's Fan" 5 out of 5 stars because it describes hilarious characters, especially a man named Mr. Cecil Graham who has some great quotes including "Whenever people agree with me, I always feel I must be wrong.". Oscar Wilde also put many twists in this play, but, unlike "Salomé", the twists were enjoyable and steered the story in a totally different direction each time. The final twist even steers the title of the play in a new and witty direction.
Please let me know if you've read an Oscar Wilde play, and if you liked his sense of humor as much as I did.
