Amusement Park of NO RETURN!

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since it's October, I thought I should review a spooky book to start the month off. In this blog post, I'm going to review one of the books from the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine called "One Day At Horrorland". When I was in Kindergarten, my mom and I read this book together to get into the Halloween spirit and I've been hooked on R.L. Stine books ever since! I would recommend this book to kids who love spooky stories with a silly twist as much as I do.

The book beings with a normal family on a road trip after they have gotten lost and ended up in the middle of nowhere. The family consists of a mom, a dad, two boys and a girl who happens to be the main character named Lizzy. While the family was driving, on the side of the road they see a billboard advertisement that said an amusement park named Horrorland was coming up in 1 mile. The billboard also said it was a place where "nightmares come to life". The kids started begging to go to the park especially because it sounded scary, so the parents decided to check it out. As soon the family had parked and gotten out of the car, the vehicle suddenly exploded behind them, leaving them trapped at Horrorland. The parents set off to find a telephone and let the kids do as they please in the amusement park.

October Reading

As the kids walked around the park, they noticed green monsters called "Horrors" manning the rides and food carts. They thought these Horrors are all part of the scary theme and think nothing of it. As they walked through the different attractions of the park, like Werewolf Village, Lizzy points out a ride called the Doom Slide that she thinks looks fun and the three kids decide to try it out. Even though there were many warnings as they walked to the start of the ride, the kids still go to the top where the slides begins and start the ride. They soon found out the rides in this park are very unique when they barely make it out of the Doom Slide alive...

I would give "One Day At Horrorland" 5 out of 5 stars because I love the description of different rides and the funny, surprising ending that will make you laugh out loud. I also really like the plot of going to a twisted, dangerous amusement park and how the characters dealt with it to make it out alive. I have already read this book three times and will probably read it many more times in the future!

If you've ever been to an amusement park, please write your favorite ride in the comments or what you would have done if you ended up in Horrorland.
